- When it comes to the costs of higher education in Texas, the amount varies based on one’s degree program. The average tuition for undergraduate study in Texas is $15,885 and graduate tuition is even higher at $17,979. In-state students enjoy lower costs, with Texas natives paying an average of $5,210 for undergraduate tuition and $7,850 for graduate tuition.
- In addition to tuition costs, Texas students pay an average of $13,764 for living expenses, or a slightly lower $13,340 for on-campus living costs. Students in Texas also pay high costs for learning supplies. The cost of books and supplies more than doubled between 2020 and 2021, rising from $1,347 to $2,833.
- Altogether, these costs are unmanageable for many low-income or middle-class students.
